Creative Direction

Co-Creator, Co-Director of three-day grassroots music festival in the heart of Detroit.

WhateverFest is a DIY festival that began five years ago at 680 W. Forest in the Cass Corridor of Detroit. This festival that took over three stories of an apartment building for a whole day has now finally outgrown itself over the years. This past year it was moved to a more suitable location at Scripps Park in Midtown Detroit. From 10 acts and 100 people, the event has grown to encompass 3 days with over 80 bands and 1000 attendees. We have featured live interactive painting sessions, mini ramp skateboarding, as well as the returning art vendors,  photo booth, and pop-up shops featured alongside the diverse local musical talent that is the main focus of the event. Here are various write-ups about the event: Freep, Detroit Music Magazine, Hip In Detroit, Free Press Photo Gallery

As Creative Director I had a number of responsibilities that included branding, logo design, the creation of posters, festival wristbands, merchandise, assets, and in general guiding the "look" of the WhateverFest brand. The logo was my own design, as was the wristband. The posters, stickers, and general use assets required a team of artists which I assembled and directed.

The event was an overall success, with us having sold around 1000 tickets at the door which allowed us to cover the expenses, and also donate to local organizations such as Community Push, Girls Rock Detroit, and The Detroit Bus Company's Youth Transit Alliance, .with Sit On It Detroit acting as a main sponsor. Here is the event page which contains the information, as well as media: WF6

The main goal of WhateverFest was to give exposure to lesser known artists in the midtown/Detroit area, whether it was music or art, and to provide entertainment at a very affordable price.  As the event grows we would like to grow with it, and return the love the city has shown us. Eventually we would like WhateverFest to primarily act as a fundraising event for Detroit causes. Our goal is to have fun, give artists an audience, engage the community, and make sure that it is a weekend everyone remembers.
